- In Psalm 13 we find David, in the mountains, being hunted down by king Saul who is determined to kill him.
- Four times in this Psalm David asks the question, "How Long?"
- How Long will you forget me?
- How long will you look the other way?
- How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul?
- how long will my enemy have the upper hand?
- Have you ever asked "How long, God?"
- Have you said, "How long will I have to keep going through this?"
- Has the wait for God's deliverance made you lose sight of the promise?
- Do you have dreams of what "Can be" but you are blinded by "what is"?
- Remember, as David is being hunted down, He has already been told He will be the next King of Israel.
- He has already been anointed.
- In 1 Sam. 16:12, the prophet Samuel is told by the Lord, " Arise, anoint him: for this is he (the chosen one)."
- He has a promise to be king but his path has lead him anywhere but a palace.
- Instead of being crowned he is being hunted.
- If David asked, "How long God?", then know that it's okay for you to ask.
- But don't remain in doubt.
- In the middle of His doubt, He remembers His God.
- He remembers God's character.
- He says, in verse 5, "I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me."
- He says, I rejoice because you HAVE rescued me!
- He was declaring God's promise.
- His outer world was saying "wilderness" while His inner man was declaring "Victory" for being rescued.
- He was saying, I know it wont always be this way - because my God is going to turn this thing around.
- He was trusting in and confident in God's mercy and loving-kindness!
- in verse 6 he says "I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me."
- He is choosing not to focus on his circumstance but instead focus on His All Powerful God.
- Choose today to focus on the eternal and not the temporary.
- Focus on you Creator.
- Be confident in His mercy and unconditional love.
- Trust in your Savior!
- Rejoice because He has rescued you!
- Have a great Tuesday!
