- In Exodus 20: 3, God give His people this first command - "You must not have any other god but me."
- And here in Joshua 24, before Joshua dies, He gives the children of Israel the same command...He says "Serve The Lord alone!"
- It may seem obvious and basic but think of how many of us don't follow this basic command.
- Remember, it's a command, NOT a suggestion.
- Think about it, we all worship something.
- Here, Joshua was warning the children of Israel about putting their trust in images carved out of stone and calling it "God".
- Although we don't worship gods made out of stone, we have our own "gods".
- It's the thing that has your "heart"
- It's the thing that you love and put your trust in.
- It's the thing that has your attention.
- It's the voice that you listen to before you ask for Gods advice.
- What has your heart?
- Think about how awesome The Lord God is.
- He spoke and everything you see, feel and experience came into existence.
- He is All Powerful.
- He is All Knowing.
- He is All Present.
- He knows the end from the beginning.
- He has the hairs on your head counted... And He knows when one falls out.
- He should be our Lord and King but we make Him compete with Social media?
- Does that make sense?
- We trust in the advice of others instead of going to Him first?
- We try to gain the acceptance and love of our peers before turning to the One who loves us with an everlasting Love and has already said that your are accepted.
- We know more words of the most popular music than words from His Word.
- We make Him compete for our time and attention while we watch our favorite Sport, TV show, or Movie.
- We put Him in second place wile we check twitter and see what people have to say on Facebook.
- Here's the Big Question ... What is Really FIRST in your heart and life.
- Can you really say that God is first in your thoughts and life?
- Or is He just an "Add On"...
- Is he something that you add on or tack on to the end of the day?
- Just like Joshua challenged the children of Israel in Joshua 24:15, "Choose today whom you will serve."
- Make the choice to serve Him wholeheartedly!
- "wholehearted" means ALL of your Heart- not part.
- God requires the whole.
- If you think that you can find true peace, joy and fulfillment from all of your "Stuff" then go for it!
- Go after it with all your heart and see where it leads you.
- Don't try to make Him an "Add On" to all your stuff.
- Choose Today whom you will serve.
- "Put away forever the idols... Serve the Lord alone."
- Say like Joshua said, "But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
- Make the choice, today, who will take first place in your heart.
- If its God, then make the decision, today, to clear everything else out of your heart and Worship Him alone.
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). (Matt. 22:37)
- Make Him #1
- Have a great Weekend!
