(Mark 4:38 NKJV)
- Here we find Jesus asleep.
- But the shocking thing is not that He is sleeping, it’s the time and place that He is sleeping.
- The verse before this says, “And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.” (4:37)
- How in the world can you sleep at a time like this?
- The waves are crashing over the sides of the boat.
- The boat is being tossed back and forth by the waves and the wind!
- At the same time, water has begun to fill the boat!
- The disciples interpret this as though Jesus does not care about them or their situation.
- Have you ever been there?
- Have you ever said that to Jesus?
- “Jesus, don’t you care what I’m going through!?”
- “Jesus, can’t you see what I’m in the middle of!?”
- The disciples interpreted this as though Jesus didn’t care.
- But there is a much deeper principal that Jesus is showing them.
- I think that Jesus is sleeping because the world where Jesus lives is absent of storms.
- The Peace within Jesus is Greater than the storm around him.
- And so what does Jesus do?
- “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm”. (4:39)
- He brought the peace from within and delivered it to the storm without.
- He took what was inside and delivered it to the outside.
- Jesus is showing us that although we will All go through storms in life, we can have a peace within us that is greater then our storm.
- You are in control of how you react to your storm.
- If you live in a place of fear and worry then that’s what you will show and demonstrate to others.
- If inside you are filled with chaos the you will express chaos on the outside.
- But Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace, wants you have His peace within you.
- Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
- Focus on Jesus; be filled with His presence and trust completely in Him and He will give you an inner peace that is far great than the storm that you find yourself in.
- The apostle Paul tells us in Colossians 3:15, to “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”
- Let His peace rule.
- Let it be the deciding factor in your life.
- Don’t let your storm dictate how you live.
- Let the inner peace within you guide you in how you react to the storm around you.
- Have a great Monday!
