- What are the things that you feel "compelled" to do?
- The word compel is an "irresistible drive or urge"
- To feel compelled to do something can be either good or bad depending on where you have your eyes focused.
- In 1 Sam 13:12, King Saul told Samuel "I felt compelled"...But what was he focused on?
- The verse right before this (v.11) gives us the answer...
- This is what King Saul saw -"I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle."
- King Saul was focused on His men that were leaving him
- And Saul was focused on the enemy that was building up its forces before him.
- When King Saul focused on His men and the enemy, fear built up within him.
- Saul became impatient and couldn't wait, so he felt compelled.
- But in 1 Sam. 10:8, the Prophet Samuel gave Him specific instructions, "go down to Gilgal ahead of me. I will join you there to sacrifice burnt offerings and peace offerings. You must wait for seven days until I arrive and give you further instructions.”
- All Saul had to do was wait, but "He felt compelled."
- Before we jump all over King Saul, we've got to examine ourselves.
- What are you focused on this morning?
- Is it the enemy?
- Is it a temptation?
- Is it gossip?
- Is it words that have been spoken over you?
- Or is it people and their actions?
- Whatever it is, if your focus is not on God and His ability then your focus is on the wrong thing?
- What you focus on will Compel You!
- If you are focused on your hunger, you will be compelled to eat.
- If you are focused on people, you will feel compelled to please them.
- If you are focused on God and Knowing Him, you will feel compelled to draw close to Him through His Word and Prayer.
- Place your focus on Our All Powerful God this morning!
- What was the last thing He told you to do?
- Have you grown tired of waiting on Him?
- Do you feel compelled to go ahead of Him and act on your own or to take things into your own hands?
- Are your tired of waiting for the right guy or girl to come into your life?
- Are you tired of waiting for the promotion?
- Have you grown impatient of waiting for the breakthrough in your life?
- Does it seem like everyone is getting ahead of you and getting noticed?
- Make a Critical Decision today, to Focus on Jesus.
- It is critical, because when King Saul felt compelled to go ahead of God and act on his own, it cost him the Kingdom.
- Samuel's exact words were, "How foolish!" (V13)
- Don't be foolish
- Trust in The Lord
- Wait on Him
- God hasn't forgotten you or what you are going through.
- Look at what Psalm 37: 5 & 7 says, "Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act."
- Focus on The Lord and wait on His Timing.
- 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake..."
- Trust in His Timing.
- He is always right on time!
- Have a great Thursday!
